Back Safely from the remote village

Well, we are back safely in Kathmandu after today's 11 hour car ride. It would have been much faster except that we had to wait outside the city for a couple hours due to some civil unrest that was happening within the city. Apparently some Maoists (ruling political power in Nepal) had killed somebody and this caused a strike by the people within the city and prevented people from entering Kathmandu. We heard stories that a bus was turned over by the protesters because it attempted to enter. Anyway, after waiting for some time we just decided to go for it, so we prayed and weaved through backroads and side streets. In the end we got back to the church safely!

No one got sick on the curvy and rocky road (thanks to Dramamine!), maybe just a few cramped legs and numb butt cheeks. I was encouraged by the team's patience and attitude as we endured the long ride and then long wait after the long ride!

You are probably wondering what happened in the remote village of Nessing - some amazing things happened. But I am going to let the rest of team tell the story, so stay tuned for the next posts as team members write a summary of each day in the village.

So visit this blog again soon!

Thank you again for your prayers, they made huge impact!

May 19th, 2008 Nessing Medical Outreach #4

We had the wonderful opportunity to stay in Nessing one day longer than last year. This meant one more day without a shower, one more day sleeping in tents on the hard floor, but most importantly, it meant one more day with the beautiful people of Nessing. We were able to conduct a fourth clinic day for the people of Haku and Grey and for the people of Nessing that were not able to make it to the first 3 days of clinic. We also had time to visit many of the village believers' homes to pray for them and really see how the people of Nessing live. At church on Saturday, two babies were dedicated to the Lord and given biblical names (Joshua and Caleb). We had the opportunity to pray for these two babies and their mothers in their homes. Most of the husbands were not home. They were either away in the fields or in another country getting work training.

The most powerful part of the day was when we prayed for Kamitasi (the village leader and the first believer in Nessing). We heard that he was drinking more lately and getting into nasty fights and even spend a few nights in jail for beating a man. He hadn't been around the clinic for several days and finally showed up. We visited his home and began encouraging him in the Lord and sharing more of Jesus' love with him and he began to weep. I felt the Holy Spirit in that room and knew that this was the reason we were there. We needed to encourage his walk with the Lord and hopefully Jesus will change his ways. I walked out of his house with tears in my eyes and a feeling of peace that this was part of our purpose of going to Nessing.
At night our team (Hawaii, Nepal and Nessing) worshipped the Lord together and shared encouraging words with each other about how we were blessed by our time and ministry together. I was reflecting on all the wonderful relationships we have built and we have such a strong bond with the entire team. I am truly going to miss them and I can't wait to come back to Nessing to visit our friends and FAMILY!!

May 18th, Nessing Medical Outreach #3

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today was an awesome day! It was day #3 with our medical outreach in Nessing. We woke up to a thunder storm wondering if we would have any patients. But of course God something planned with all the rain and thunder. We were able to see many patients from the surrounding villages of Grey and Haku. Many of these patients suffered from worms, diarrhea, headache, and gastric problems. As we tried to break for lunch more thunder, lightning, and rain hit Nessing village. Many of the people that had already been seen in our medical clinic had to take cover in the church(clinic). As I was finishing with my last patient before lunch I hear the loud prayers of Pastor Shem as he laid his hands on several of the ladies from Haku. About 9 adults with their children were sitting on the floor of the church while pastor Shem shared the Gospel with them.

3 of the ladies asked to accept Jesus into their hearts! Our team then gathered arround and laid hands on them to pray! It was very powerful! As we finished with our prayer our cook announces that lunch for the team is ready. So we gathered, held hands and prayed. As we got in line for our food, the Spirit spoke to all of our team members to give our portion to the ladies from Haku(about 9 adults and 10 children).

There was no way we could eat our meals in front of these ladies as it poured rained outside. And especially as 3 of those ladies had just accepted the Lord! Those ladies had a look of surprise and amazement that were were giving them food. It was truly a touching moment! After they were feed, God amazingly supplied food from the same pots, enough for our entire team of 8 and the nepali team of 9! It felt like Jesus' feeding of the 5000 with the fish and loaves of bread! Many of these ladies(according to Pastor Shem) would previously did not want to hear about Jesus or wear the neclace crosses, After they were fed, they all asked for the crosses to wear! It was truly an awesome day in Nessing! God truly had a purpose fo the thunderstorm! Praise be to Jesus! His Magnificent power endures forever! AMEN!

May 17th, Nessing Medical Outreach #2

The morning started with a beautiful sunrise over the snow-capped peaks of Langtang mountain. Today was the day Nessing village had it's church service. The children sang beautiful songs in Nepali at the top of their lungs. Pure and enthusiastic worship.

Clinic was a nice steady pace. Worms and gastrointestinal parasites, body aches, ear pain, gastritis, eye pain and cough were the majority of the complaints of the day.

After clinic were were treated to a nice hike up the cliff behind the village to get an awesome view of the neighboring village called Hoku.

May 16th, Nesing Medical Outreach #1

Today's the day that we all have been waiting for! One flight to Japan, one to thailand, another to Nepal, and finally a nine hour body shaking drive. Today marked the day of our teams first 2008 medical outreach in Nessing.

After breakfast and team devo's we got cracking. A line started to form at about 9 am and the outreach began. Everybody got situated in their areas/positions, but I shifted to almost every position except doctor, only because my expertise was not needed. The most memorable part of the day for me was doing the illustrations of how to boil water. Most of the patients suffered from worms. The worms develop from drinking the stream water. So my job was to show the villagers why its important to boil water. Rabin was my translater and man you should have been there when he does his interpretation of how worms cause diarrea.
While the outreach was going on I took a step back looked at what was going on. God gave me a clear picture of His awesome work being done. Once the outreach finished it was off to try out our homemade shower. Our shower consisted of two tarps that were tied to a giant bolder that some how formed curtains. Minh brought a hikers shower water pack, when it sits in the sun the water heats up so that was nice. This was the first time i ever had a crowd while i showered.
Shortly after my shower we ate some ono Nepali food. Then Uddov shared his testimony which was awesome. My first day in Nessing will never be forgotten. The scenary the children and the people man! you just gotta be there to know what I'm talking about.
